Carrot Card®: The easiest way to pay for fertility care & adoption

This year, U.S. Carrot members have used the Carrot Card® to cover more than $1 million in fertility and family-forming services. The first-of-its-kind card, the award-winning Carrot Card is an easy way for employees to pay for treatment like egg freezing, in vitro fertilization (IVF), adoption, donor and gestational carrier services, and more without having to first pay out-of-pocket and wait to be reimbursed. Today, we’re thrilled to announce we’re making the Carrot Card available worldwide.

Carrot supports companies in more than 55 countries across North America, Asia, Europe, South America, and the Middle East. The leading global fertility benefits provider for employers, Carrot has processed claims in 33 currencies worth tens of millions of U.S. dollars.

With the international Carrot Card, members worldwide now have easier access to a transformative benefit that removes one of the most significant barriers to high-quality care: cost. The international Carrot Card will allow for virtual contactless payments, enabling secure payment without the need to present a physical card. It will also include cross-currency support for employers managing benefits in multiple countries.

Carrot Card’s impact in the U.S.

Recognized by Fast Company as a World Changing Idea, the Carrot Card makes high-quality fertility care more accessible and affordable than ever before. This year alone, Carrot members spent more than $1 million USD through the Carrot Card despite the unprecedented shutdown of fertility and family-forming services due to COVID-19. In the weeks since fertility treatments have resumed, usage has increased to its highest level yet — since May, we’ve seen over $500,000 USD spent via Carrot Card.

Fertility care for all

Carrot was founded with a mission of fertility care for all. That means we believe fertility care is a fundamental part of human healthcare — but unfortunately, it’s still inaccessible for far too many people. In the U.S., more than 80% of people who undergo fertility treatments have little to no coverage, and they accrue an average of $30k in debt after undergoing fertility services, often relying on credit cards or loans or tapping their 401(k) to pay for treatment.

And while offering a benefit is a critical start, it doesn’t always make care accessible — the average Carrot member spends nearly $10,000 USD on care, an amount most people can’t pay up front and wait for reimbursement. The Carrot Card is a major step towards improving access to fertility care worldwide.
