What’s your favorite thing about your job?
My favorite part of my job is when I’m able to guide a member who’s unsure of how to move forward in these complicated and expensive journeys. I love being able to walk through their options and leave them feeling like they have an understanding of the process and action items to keep their journey moving ahead. The sigh of relief at the end of the call is always my favorite!
What types of situations have you helped Carrot members navigate?
I’ve helped Carrot members navigate tons of different journeys. I frequently give members general overviews of both adoption and GC journeys (GC journeys are also commonly referred to as surrogacy), help them through key decision points, and discuss options for eligible providers and partner providers. Through all of that, I also make sure they understand how they can use their Carrot benefit for financial support or additional expert guidance.
To get more specific, I’ve helped Carrot members with domestic and international adoptions, including fostering to adopt, adopting from foster care, stepparent adoption, third-parent adoption, kinship adoption, and more. I’ve also worked with members going through GC journeys (with or without an agency), searching for egg donors, and transitioning from in vitro fertilization (IVF) to other journey types.
What do you like to do for fun?
I love to cook, watch and play baseball, and complete puzzles. Before COVID-19, I enjoyed hosting dinner parties with friends, going out dancing, and going to Disneyland — and can’t wait to get back to those! And, of course, I love helping my friends navigate their family-forming and healthcare journeys even outside of work.
I was part of a drag cover band group called Every Direction that covered songs of One Direction. I played softball in college as a pitcher. I know a lot about sea creatures because I volunteered at a small aquarium in high school. I have three dogs and three guinea pigs — mostly thanks to quarantine!
